The Indian Gospel Mission (IGM) is a public, charitable society, solely dedicated to work among the underprivileged citizens of the country without any discretion of religion, caste, creed, color and sex. 2015 was the year of blessing and of course every New Year is a blessing. As the clock struck 12 in the night with praises in the church and bursting crackers out of the campus wow! That’s the welcome moment for the year 2015 by the Higher Secondary Boys.
The Services, Activities and projects of IGM as follows
Orphanages
The Indian Gospel Mission has 3 children Homes, registered under the Juvenile Justice Act (JJ ACT) as per the Government of Tamil Nadu and the government India under the social defence.Guduvancherry Home is situated in the head quarter premises.Pandur Home is for Boys, situated 7 Kilometers away from the Head Quarters
Tribal Home
Tribal Home at Ooty is for girls situated in Nilgiris district situated 530 km from the head quarters. Since the Tribal children are not provided education IGM took initiative to educate the girls. Agriculture is the only occupation and girls are forced to have early marriages but now they are privileged to have a good education, shelter and food. All the children homes are looked after by child welfare officers, supervisors and caretakers. Since we have a good infrastructure all the legal license have been approved such as building license, stability certificate and the license to run the children homes.
Activities of the Children Homes
IGM has been widely acknowledged by the government officials, they usually prefer us to admit street children, kids, saved from the traffickers. Here is an instance how we received 3 children belonged to the same family, who were wandering on the road without proper food and shelter, have been directed to our home. Their mother was so happy to look at the campus and many children who were ready to be friends with them. The youngest of the 3 was only 4 years old when the mother left she started crying. The mother consoled the child by saying “ Don’t worry here they will give you lots of food to eat” slowly the child stopped crying and said bye to the mother but that reply left a heavy and chocking throat for the staffs present. Regular counseling sessions are arranged for the higher secondary children. We are proud that every year IGM gets a clean chit that all the documents are clear. The feedback given by the children was much pleasing and the inspection team was satisfied with our orphanage building and other amenities. We thank god that he has blessed us through your kind donations of fulfill the needs of the children. We had appreciation and thanks session for our children home tuition teacher because she has trained the girls for essay writing competition, where the team bagged 2 places where 20 schools participated and won cash prize of Rs.5000 from the District Collector. The Tuition Teacher was keen on individual participation than winning more over she took special interest not to miss any competition or event. Extra curri- cular activities are a part of their education like jewellery making, painting, and craft work The children excel in sports and they have won prizes in district level too As per the Government Norms every children home should have a management Committee, this includes the children from the age group of 6 to 17, for both boys
Free Medical Centers:
Medical camp is arranged for the benefit of our children and for the common people. Eye, Dental and general physicians came from specialty hospitals. Through this camp our children home kids were benefitted and the common people from the nearby colony too. Along with this, hair cutting for the small boys and girls were done, after the cutting they were given a pouch which contained toiletries. People who come for the medical check – up were given required medicines and a free tree sapling. It was given to encourage them to secure nature.
Carpentry Training School
Carpentry training has been beneficial. This year 17 boys have received their graduation in April. They are sent to work as assistants to big shops and we are glad to tell that 3 boys from the previous batch have started a small business by their own in the town area. There are 2 carpentry centers. One center is in Pandur and the other center is in OOty. The tribal boys in OOty are picking up faster and we are happy to see them to secure a decent profession.
Women upliftment program:
Tailoring project for women has been widely acknowledged by the villagers and Chittoor upliftment project gave hope to 60 women come out their poverty. The project is conducted in 7 villages. They had finished their course and we have helped to start small business of their own. A course completion certification and tailoring machines are provided. Counseling and medical care is also provided during their regular classes. While finishing the course we could see their confidence level is high and we are happy to help them to find a way for an income.
Free Night School
Free night school this year has been successful and the feedbacks from the villagers were pleasing as usual. Children from lower kinder garden to higher secondary are benefited. This project is warmly welcomed by the uneducated villagers as it helps their children to excel in academics. This year 830 children have been benefited through this project
Senior Citizen care
IGM has a long term vision of building a senior citizen home. But currently supporting thirty seven elderly (37) people every month has their children failed to take care of them. It’s not only a financial help, also medical care is given and our volunteers spend time with them which makes them happy. Statistics say the number of old age homes have increased in Tamil Nadu and throughout the India. The volunteers also make sure that the service is always through Love and care.
Service to Leprosy
There are 25 Leprosy Families in a nearby Town, Walajabad, where approximately 75 people are infected. IGM has already provided shelters, every month we provide food and clothing. Our volunteers visit local colony and spend time with them. They teach cleanliness and perform programs to entertain them which include stage performances. We have to mention about the kindness of our volunteers in this leprosy program because they do not hesitate to clean the wounds rather turn their face to the stinking smell where their own children complain about it. IGM has earned reputation through this project also.
Free Computer Training Program
Free computer courses are provided for approximately 250 children. Well qualified trainers conducted this program every year. Merit certificates issued to those pupils who complete it. Every year the number is increasing because even an uneducated parent is also aware how essential is computer knowledge nowadays. We are planning to expand this project to all the educational centers in our project.
Feeding Project
IGM Volunteers eagerly wait for the feeding project day because they have experienced that there is no greater joy than feeding the poor and hungry .Their gratitude and smile is always been pushing the volunteers to come for this particular project without fail. 305 families receive 5 Kilogram of rice and dhal every month. It’s one of the successful projects for IGM to reach the poor community with God’s Love and affection. The volunteers report say since the families are receiving basic food items many parents have allowed their children to go to school who were previously child laborers.
Higher Education Projects
Kids from the IGM Children home who have completed the Higher Secondary are privileged to perceive their higher studies like bachelor of computer application, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of secretary and computer science. Some Colleges and trade and technical institutes, they admit our children immediately, though there is high demand to get admission at those colleges. Boys from the home always interest in mechanism whereas girls prefer Nursing and lab Technician courses. Whatever might be the interest of the children, IGM stands by them and encourages.
Feed the Hungry
Whenever the natural disaster IGM Volunteers Make sure that they are the front to help the people without any cost and creed. Gypsy Groups and Street children are regularly fed under this project. Downtrodden villages, Elderly people and Widows are benefitted under this project every month. We cook food at the IGM campus and distribute every month. All the branch churches also follow this schedule every month. We fed 23,000 approximately every year.
Natural Disaster Rescue
IGM is helping people during any natural calamity like flood, Tsunami, Earthquake, Landslide and Cyclone. We rescue people who are affected by any of these natural disasters and provide them temporary shelters, food, clothing, Drinking water and medical Assistance. IGM acclaims the honor of saving lives in the recent flood in December. We are also planning raise some special donation for this project to have it ready at the time of emergency.

The Services, Activities and projects of IGM as follows
The New Year Service was a great Joy for the children and everyone at IGM because we faced challenges and graciously overcome and stepped into 2019. At the same time responsibility has increased to achieve our goals. We had big gathering on the New Year Service where the prayer hall was full with the congregation and the children. It was a blessed gathering. After the Service we had simple breakfast and coffee and felt revived. After 2 weeks of holiday the children had to concentrate on studies. The high school kids were getting ready for their annual exams from then on. We also distributed blankets for the children during the month.
Children Career Development Program
Children Career Development Program was conducted by the volunteers at the Head Quarters. The children always keep changing their ideas and plans. We assist the maximum to analyze their interest or passion to follow in the future. It was a special program that helped to seniors to learn.
Life Skill Development Program
We have also organized Life skill Development Program Conducted by Children Welfare committee for all the Children and Staffs at IGM. It was a useful session for them.
Medical Camp
Medical camp was conducted at the IGM campus for General Medicine. IGM members were early coming for their regular checkup. The children were benefited. The people in the village were eagerly taking part during the day.
Disaster Safety Program
As per the government circular, Disaster Safety Program was conducted for the children and the staff. It would help them during the emergency time. It was surely an awareness program for everyone. Meanwhile the tailoring project students were getting ready for the course completion. They were excited to try their new job. At the administration level we were also visiting the project groups to have discussion about their future plans, feedback from the villagers. The volunteers are always a great support for all the projects at IGM. All the children are continuously preparing for their final exams in April. Moreover, the volunteers are also preparing for their summer classes like Sunday school and women gathering. On behalf of every single child at IGM I thank everyone for support and Love.
Summer Camp
The summer camp was the perfect enjoyment for the kids. They thoroughly enjoyed it. All the other projects such as women upliftment and free tuition centre we over before the summer holidays.
Bag distribution
The volunteer team distributed the school bags to our children. They were excited to receive the new bags. They feel very happy for the new bags.
One day Picnic
The children enjoyed a one day picnic to Aringar Anna Zoological Park. They left the home in the morning and packed their lunch and snacks. They are enjoyed the whole day.
New Dormitory Building dedication
During the month of August we dedicated the new dormitory building for the children in memory of our founder on is birthday. The ceremony was started by lighting the candle and remembering the importance of world peace and child protection all over the globe. Many Government officials are participated in this event. Children are very eagerly waiting to enter the new dormitory building.
Balloon show & Counseling session
During the weekend we had arranged a balloon show and counseling session was conducted by volunteers at the Head Quarters. All the kids enjoyed the balloon show. The counseling session was very useful for our senior boys and girls it was conducted by experienced counselor and motivational speakers.
Independence Day celebration
India celebrated 73rd Independence Day celebration on 15th August 2019. Our chairman hoisted the flag, in the Head Quarters and distributed the sweets to the children. The boys and girls were eager to participate in the elocution competition. The higher secondary children won prizes at school competition. It was a great day for the senior boys and girls who have been participated in the science exhibition.
Free Tuition Centre
IGM is conducting free tuition center for unprivileged children. They do not have any to guide after school. The volunteers at the tuition center help them to finish their daily studies. Apart from the academics they also help them to motivate in other activities too. The villagers are extremely happy to know that their children are taken care of their studies, since they are all uneducated. Currently, we are conducting 11tuition centers in different places and we believe to extend in the coming days.
Staff Training programme
IGM Staff and volunteers were encouraged to attend “Healing the inner child” programme which was conducted at district level. It was very useful for us to know about the thought of the children now a day it would surely assist and analysis the mentality of a child who would face like criticism from the society.
Festival and holiday Season
The children were thrilled to complete their term tests and enjoy their holidays. We arranged useful session during their weekends like motivational speech and invited experts for those sessions they spoke with children regarding awareness and importance of education. The volunteers spent some quality time with the children to celebrate the Diwali festival with crackers, the children have been happy to burst the crackers. The volunteers kept them engaged by conducting some drawing competition and creative handwork.
Participating in Exhibition
We had a chance to participate in Indian Small & Rural Business Exhibition we utilized this opportunity, to sell handmade jewelry, candles and greeting cards. This has been our first time participation and we are glad we were able to raise some funds.
Children’s Day Programme
We Celebrated Children’s day on 14th November. Volunteers spent some quality time with the children by conducting games and dance program in our children home. Our children participated in the girl child awareness program which was useful for the people. On the Christmas day the children were excited to wear their new dresses. We had a morning service at 7.00am. It was a joyous day with special lunch. Lastly, all the church members including the branch churches and children homes conducted thanks giving prayer to thank the Lord for all the blessings and mercy in 2019.
